Six Years of Rothbury Rubbish Friends!

In 2019 Northumberland County Council provided us with the equipment, and off we went! Many of us keep the equipment at home, and keep the areas around where we live as litter free as we can. Many litter pick as they walk, too.

Schools

RRF arranged to bring litter picking equipment for all of our schools - to keep their school grounds tidy, and the areas around the schools, too.

Dr Thomlinson also join in.

Community Litter Picking

Most months we have a community litter pick, lasting an hour. We are so lucky to be given a free cuppa by the local cafes and pubs afterwards!

Queens Head has been very generous.

Always strange things to find. Luckily, less and less vapes.
Often the main things we find are plastic bottles, glass alcohol bottles, broken glass, food wrappers, and, as always, that delightful 'fruit', the dog-poo-in-a-bag, hanging from all kinds of bushes.

Another problem we find all the time is the cigarette ends all over the pavement, especially near bins. It is a constant surprise that people do not put the butts in the bin, after stubbing them out on the top.

Where did you get that hat?

One litter pick, Cynthia arrived wearing a fantastic hat. I asked her where she got it from?

'I made it, out of plastic bags from Rogerson Shoe Shop', she told us, as we were all admiring it. She took it off and showed us how it folded up very small. She passed it to me and I felt how soft it is. 'How did you make it?' I asked, amazed (I am not good at making stuff, and so admire those who can).

'Oh, it was easy, I cut the bags into strips, and crocheted them', Cynthia told us, modestly.

The Rothbury Rubbish Friends were all amazed at the ingenuity, and Cynthia's modesty. It really is a unique and stylish hat!

2026 onwards - Community Litter Picks

PLEASE NOTE: FROM 2026 WE ARE ALIGNING THE LITTERPICKS TO THE COQUETDALE REPAIR CAFE DAYS.
